Camera Modules for SBC/SOM
Camera modules for SBCs and SOMs are the sensor entry into computer vision and edge AI: from MIPI-CSI modules for direct processor connection to USB cameras for quick setups. What matters are interface, resolution and driver/BSP support on the target platform. See also: Single Board Computers with NPU for on-device inference and Adapters & Cables for the connection.
Choosing the right camera module
- Interface: MIPI-CSI (15/22-pin) for low latency and processor ISP – USB for platform independence and simple cabling
- Sensor: resolution, frame rate, global/rolling shutter and sensitivity to match the vision task
- Optics: fixed focus, interchangeable lenses (M12/CS mount) or autofocus depending on working distance
- Software: driver and BSP support on the target platform – the most common integration topic; our FAE advises on it

Developer FAQs
MIPI-CSI or USB camera – which to choose?
MIPI-CSI connects directly to the processor ISP: low latency, low CPU load, ideal for vision and edge AI. USB is platform-independent, allows longer cabling and integrates faster – good for prototypes and simpler tasks.
Will the camera module run on my board?
That depends on driver and BSP support on the platform. We offer camera modules matching the platforms – our FAE is happy to advise you on the selection.
What else does edge-AI vision need?
A platform with sufficient NPU performance, suitable lighting and optics – and a BSP with a camera pipeline. On-device inference avoids cloud dependency and reduces latency.
