Time of Flight / 3D Imaging

Time-of-flight (ToF) and 3D imaging extend HMIs with depth perception: touchless gesture control, presence and distance detection and 3D interaction become possible. What matters is the range and accuracy of the ToF sensor, rugged interfaces and edge compute for local evaluation. Atlantik Elektronik supplies sensor, camera and compute base: camera modules, edge compute and image sensors.

Frequently asked questions

What is time-of-flight used for in HMIs?

For depth information: touchless gestures, presence and distance detection and 3D interaction. Range and accuracy determine the design.

How does ToF differ from a pure RGB camera?

ToF measures distances and provides depth data, while RGB only provides colour images. Both can be combined for more robust detection.

Why local evaluation at the edge?

Low latency and data protection: depth data is processed on the device without image data having to leave the system.

Does Atlantik Elektronik support the design?

Yes – our FAEs support the selection of ToF sensor, interface and edge-AI platform to match range and accuracy.
