The Nuvoton NuMaker-GestureAI-M55M1 is an evaluation and development platform built around the NuMicro M55M1 series for endpoint AI. At its core is a 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M55 running at up to 220 MHz, combined with an Arm Ethos™-U55 Neural Processing Unit for neural-network acceleration. This makes the board suitable for embedded applications where local AI execution, signal acquisition, and energy-efficient processing need to be combined on a microcontroller platform.
AI microcontroller platform with Ethos™-U55 and up to 110 GOPS
The M55M1 series provides up to 110 GOPS of AI computing power and is designed for data recognition and intelligent audio. In addition, the platform includes DSP extensions, Helium vector extension, and an IEEE-754-compliant FPU for half-, single-, and double-precision calculations. This makes it suitable for compute-intensive embedded tasks such as audio processing, digital signal processing, machine learning, communications, and sensor fusion.
Memory architecture for local processing and expansion
The M55M1 integrates up to 1.5 MB of on-chip RAM and 2 MB of Flash. It also includes OctoSPI and HyperBus interfaces for expanding RAM and Flash capacity. The internal memory architecture includes I-TCM, D-TCM, multiple SRAM areas, LPSRAM, boot ROM, OTP Flash, and XOM, making the platform suitable for local AI models as well as signal- and data-intensive workloads.
Rich I/O for audio, camera, communication, and control
The M55M1 series provides a broad interface set for connected embedded systems. Listed interfaces include USB High-Speed OTG with power delivery, USB Full-Speed OTG, 10/100 Ethernet MAC with RMII, CAN FD, I3C, I2C, SPI/I2S, I2S, UART, SDIO, DMIC, and an 8-bit camera capture interface controller (CCAP). The NuMaker-GestureAI-M55M1 board itself includes LED, user buttons, HS-USB OTG, a microSD card slot, a MEMS microphone, and a CMOS module (GC0308).
Low power and security for robust edge and IoT designs
For energy-efficient operation, the M55M1 series offers five low-power modes and peripherals that can continue running in low-power mode. On the security side, the platform includes secure boot, TrustZone, TRNG, key store, crypto accelerators, tamper detection, and PSA Level 2 compliance. This combination is especially relevant for IoT and embedded applications where both power efficiency and protection matter.
Suitable for evaluation in common toolchains
The Nuvoton NuMaker-GestureAI-M55M1 supports development with Keil MDK, IAR EWARM, and Eclipse IDE with GNU GCC. Together with the Nu-Link debugger, the platform is suitable for evaluation, prototyping, and early development of AIoT, audio, sensor, and embedded vision applications.
