Product description
Nuvoton KA49713A is a battery monitoring IC (BMIC) for stacks of up to 16 series-connected lithium-ion cells. Daisy-chain communication allows up to 55 ICs to be connected in series, enabling a single host processor to monitor large high-voltage battery systems.
Series Overview
The KA49713A belongs to Nuvoton's stackable battery monitoring IC series, developed alongside the KA49703A for battery backup units (BBUs) in AI servers and large-scale energy storage systems. The series builds on automotive-proven daisy-chain communication technology and supports 400V and 800V high-voltage architectures. Mass production is scheduled to start in September 2026, with samples already available.
Configuration and Features
- Monitoring of up to 16 battery cells per IC
- Daisy-chain and SPI communication interface, cascading of up to 55 devices
- Voltage measurement accuracy of ±2.9 mV
- Internal diagnostic and fail-safe functions reducing the need for external protection circuitry
- Operating current consumption of 190 µA with intermittent 250 ms operation
- Dedicated transportation and storage mode with shutdown current below 0.1 µA, exclusive to the KA49713A
- Compact QFP-48 package measuring 7 mm x 7 mm
Typical Applications
The KA49713A is designed for high-voltage battery systems with many series-connected cells.
- Battery backup units (BBUs) for AI servers
- Large-scale energy storage systems (ESS)
- High-voltage battery stacks with 400V/800V architecture
- Industrial and infrastructure applications with serial cell stacks
Note for Development or Procurement
As the KA49713A will not enter mass production until September 2026 but is already available as a sample, early coordination on availability and design-in is recommended.
