The Qualcomm® RB5 Gen 2 Development Kit (Core Kit) is a high-performance development platform for embedded AI, computer vision, robotics, and industrial edge systems. At its core is the Qualcomm Dragonwing™ QCS8550, which, compared with the previous RB5 generation, offers significantly increased AI processing capability, more inferences per second, improved power efficiency, and the ability to run more networks simultaneously.
Core Kit as the base configuration for AI and edge development
The Core Kit is the base platform of the RB5 Gen 2 family. It is intended for developers who first want to evaluate the compute platform, I/O structure, expandability, and software base. For the next product step, an important distinction is that the Vision Kit builds directly on this Core Kit and adds the camera-related hardware components for vision-centric development tasks.
QCS8550 with 48 TOPS for demanding on-device AI
The platform is built around the Qualcomm Dragonwing™ QCS8550 and delivers up to 48 TOPS of AI computing performance. It is complemented by the Qualcomm® Kryo™ CPU, Adreno™ 740 GPU, Spectra™ 680 ISP, Adreno VPU 8550, and Adreno DPU 1295. This makes the Core Kit suitable for AI inference, imaging, video processing, multimedia, and sensor-rich embedded designs.
Development platform for vision, sensors, and 96Boards expansion
The development kit follows the RB-series design concept and is 96Boards compliant. It supports high-speed and low-speed expansion for PCIe, USB, MIPI CSI/DSI, SDIO, GPIO, I2C, SPI, UART, and audio. This makes the platform suitable for modular development setups involving cameras, depth sensing, ToF, multi-microphone configurations, and additional sensor systems.
Strong connectivity and broad I/O set
The platform includes tri-band 2x2 MIMO Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4, 1× 1GbE, 1× 2.5GbE, 1× 10GbE, USB 3.0 Type-C, USB 3.0 Type-A, Micro USB debug, HDMI, and DP 1.4. Additional speaker connectivity, on-board microphones, sensors, and multiple expansion connectors make the Core Kit a broad development base for AIoT and edge designs.
